![]() i refuse to buy something that looks exactly like the one i currently have it's 2015 Degica should be able to make 3d maker engines by now. ![]() this is standard, they make iterations every few years, and it's just that time for a new one. It's niche - but the niche it's in it occupies very well. Take it from someone who's got some breadth in engine usage: For right now, nothing has de-seated RM from its present throne. They need to start ramping things up with the next engine if they don't want Unity to swallow their userbase whole - but that's still years away. Right now it's only a shadow of an RM engine - it's not ready for people who are serious about making games like myself. I'll check that engine out when it's more mature. In fact, RPG Boss is using RM's assets to demonstrate itself - I think that speaks quite clearly on the matter. It's because of the 'draconian legal bindings' that RPG Maker MV can have such assets to offer everyone which purchases the engine. You're pitting a work in progress open source project against a fully supported and soon-to-be-released product? It's a bold statement - but I don't feel your 'facts' live up to my standards.ĭoes RPGBoss come with a whole bunch of free assets which you could use directly in a commercial product? Will it support exporting to a bunch of other devices and platforms? Does it come with a built-in character/face sprite creator, including battle animations? Does it come with particle animation creation tools and so on and so forth? All I'm seeing are clones of existant features already available in RM tools (including all the disappointing not-yet-evolved components) - where is the 'killer app'? Where's my editor-affecting UI plugin support my built-in networking library my in-game UI creation suite - the thing that'll make me do more than shrug off a clone of a perfectly decent engine. RPG Boss doesn't even have show/hide event at this time. It can't even compete with itself or free alternatives.Yeah, it can. Hopefully you get some insight, just thought I'd vent.įace it, RPGMaker lost the race a decade ago. Most 3D engines are waaay above their target audience, so it makes no sense for them to make a 3D engine.Įngines has limitations, you can't simply *fix* things in a snap, it takes time and again, a lot (and loooot) of money, maybe even more than remaking the thing. It's 2D by choice, not because they aren't skilled enough. The novelty with RPG Maker franchice is to make old school rpgs, from the days of NES and SNES. Secondly, the features might be similar, but remember, this is a overhaul (a major one) making sure that every feature from VX Ace + new features works with this new engine is well beyond scope (and budget most likely). For hobbist, it's a lot of money, and maybe there should be some alternative here? 66~73 euro for this level of feature complete engine is not absurd from the PoV of anyone serious about making games (RPG to be specific) for a living, as a professional. This by itself is not an easy task, it costs a lot of money for a company to do this kind of overhaul. ![]() Firstly, they remade the entire infrastructure of the engine from scratch, to work with JavaScript, and it's exportation modules. ![]()
